Early McFadden scouting report (1st and 2nd rounds)

McFadden is a bit of an enigma this yearwe are not sure what we have. I think we are suffering from his very impressive year last year where he went undefeated in the regular season and placed 5th (and his only two NCAA losses were close) in arguably one of the toughest weight classes last year. So we expect him to crush. We have offered that maybe the drop off is the step up in weightand that may be part of it. But I think it is something else. Somehow he is getting it done, even it it is closer than we are used to. Unfortunately, I think McFadden's NCAA #6 seed is a few spots too high. His two losses are to top #10 guys and no high level wins.

Wrestlestat has #5 McF over #15 Deprez 9-4. Deprez was 165 last year as well and did not qualify. Lost to anyone ranked above #25. Not particularly graceful footwork, almost clumsy in neutral. Feet stick to the mat. Strong upper body, but leans way too far forward in neutral tie ups. No signature moves. McFadden should be able to ride Deprez for RT point. This match will be closer than it should be but McFadden will be in control throughout. Prediction 5-2 decision. Deprez' lack of NCAAT experience may make him nervous and McF could exploit this inexperience.

Second round interesting note: Lydy and Harvey both beat Hunter Bolen by 2 pts during the season in low scoring affairs. Wrestlestat predicts McFadden to win by 6 pts against either guy. Wrestlestat predicts Harvey to beat Lydy by 1 pt, but I think Lydy prevails.

If Lydy wins - Lydy is quick and has good instincts. Not a strong top rider; conversely also not a great guy on bottom.McFadden can ride him for a RT point. This match will be close, uncomfortably close and I predict McF to win 4-2 decision with the only takedown in 2nd period. First period might end 0-0. I won't hold back in saying Lydy worries me a little.

IF Harvey wins - this would be good as I think his style is a very good match up with McF. Harvey is aggressive in neutral and not afraid to take risks; however, against the quality of McF that also means lots of potentially costly mistakes. Not very well balanced in neutral. Would not be surprised to see McF catch Harvey in a mistake for TD and 4 NF in first, then go on to something like a 12-4 MD.
